Our PEERS Program

Our Social skills program utilizes the concepts of the UCLA evidenced based PEERS model (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) in addition to offering a more flexible, process-oriented, and experiential approach. Our groups run fluidly on a weekly basis and help motivated children, teens and young adults who are interested in learning ways to make and keep friends. Additionally, we address topics that are unique to this neurodivergent clientele coupled with teaching the importance of reading social cues, setting boundaries, managing conflicts and anxiety as well as utilizing effective problem solving and coping strategies to foster resilience and develop confidence.

During each group session group members are taught important social skills and given the opportunity to practice these skills in sessions during mock get togethers and role plays. We also host monthly group socials where members can gather on a more informal basis and have fun playing games, watching movies, participating in supervised community outings and/or activities. Divergent Shades does not only provide social skills groups, but the opportunity for our members to develop a sense of community, belonging and empowerment.
